Watermelons are a special food for me. We shared them as a family when I was growing up, usually as a fun family event. When I enjoy watermelon, I think of simple family times, of abundance, of the joy of being with those I love, of a child's laughter at a backyard picnic. I painted this with a bright cadmium yellow background, the color of sunshine and summer and celebration.
I live in a rural area of East Alabama. I am a single mother with five children (two of which still live at home.) I have been painting all of my life. By profession I have been a graphic illustrator and a customer service rep... but my passion is painting. I love to paint still lifes, landscapes, abstracts and portraits. I have a bachelor of Fine Art degree from Auburn University. I have also studied under various portrait painters. Much of my work is inspired by 19th century Impressionist artists, particularly the French artist Paul Cezanne. (I love his use of color.) I lead an art group at my church called ArtReach. We look for ways to honor God through art. We paint together one day per month, sponsor workshops and do one or two art shows per year that focus on christian themed art. I will be posting new paintings to this site often. Most of the paintings will be for sale.
I paint portraits. No sittings are required. I paint from quality photographs. Price starts at $1500 for 20 x 24 oil on canvas head and shoulder portrait. Email me at Artbycamille@gmail.com
