Red Flower in Green Bottle with Apples

This is another still life using the red flower, the green glass bottle and three apples. I think I am getting the hang of painting this glass bottle.

Red Flower in Bottle

I love to paint whatever flowers are currently in bloom from my flower garden. The green glass was a gift from a friend to my mother. It looks really nice in a still life painting.

Carefree Summer Days at St. George Island

Another painting of one of my favorite places.... St. George Island, Florida. When I look at this painting, I am reminded of those carefree summer days where building a sand castle, searching for sea shells or just taking a quiet walk on the beach suddenly come to the top of my "to do" list.

Memories of St. George Island

My parents used to own a house on St. George Island, Florida. My children and I spent many summers there. There are no high rise apartments or condo's and very few restaurants there. St. George Island is known as the "forgotten coast." It is old time Florida at its' best. Much like what you see in the old "Flipper" shows. The water is a beautiful aqua marine, and the sand is pure white. It was (and still is) a wonderful place!

Horizontal Row of Apples

Inspiration for this painting was Paul Cezanne.

Vertical Row of Apples

My favorite 19th century artist is Paul Cezanne. I am inspired by his style and the way he does still lifes in oils. I am particularly intrigued by his use of color. His work was my inspiration in this painting of 3 contrasting apples on an off-white background.

Vine Ripe Tomatoes

Color, to me, has a language of its' own and depicts form naturally. I painted these vine ripe tomatoes using vivid color and bold brush strokes.

Tomato Slices

This was painted using the same bright yellow background.

For My Fajitas!

Three bell peppers on yellow background. I used cadmium yellow, cadmium red, thalo blue, burnt sienna, burnt umber and a smidgen of titanium white.

Red and Yellow Bell Peppers

Watermelon Slice 2

Another watermelon slice painted on cadmium yellow background.

Slice of Watemelon

Watermelons are a special food for me. We shared them as a family when I was growing up, usually as a fun family event. When I enjoy watermelon, I think of simple family times, of abundance, of the joy of being with those I love, of a child's laughter at a backyard picnic. I painted this with a bright cadmium yellow background, the color of sunshine and summer and celebration.
